Not only that, the group is defaming the name of the District Commissioner. It is being advertised that the District Commissioner himself will inaugurate this establishment. A letter from the Water Development Board is also being shown. It has emerged that the head of this encroachment is the controversial Mahabub Islam Madhu of Sheikhhati, Jessore. There are several cases against him on charges of selling adulterated honey. In the meantime, he is occupying the banks of the Bhairab River and carrying out this activity.
It can be seen that stairs have been built in the river. A house has been built next to it. A person named Milon, who is a journalist, is supervising the matter.
When he raised questions about what was happening and who was doing it, trouble broke out. Locals rushed in. An argument started. At one point, Milon was beaten up. He told the locals that they had received permission to run speedboats in the river from an influential journalist leader in Jessore. At that time, a letter was also shown.
The letter mentioned that Mahabub Islam Madhu, owner of ‘Bismillah Madhu Trading’ in Sheikhhati, Jessore, has been given permission by the Water Development Board to clean the river of filth and run speedboats and trawlers for two months. In that case, he will be able to use the part of the river from Dhaka Road Bridge to Kathaltala Bridge. The order approved on January 11 will be considered canceled after two months. That is, the approval period has expired a month earlier.
Milon could not answer the question of why such activities are going on after the expiry of the period. Later, he left the place saying that his ‘journalist elder brother’ would come.
Locals expressed their anger and said that the place was once occupied. Later, it was released during the river excavation. In addition, a bypass road is supposed to be built along the river bank. In such a situation, there has been a storm of criticism over the reoccupation.
In this regard, Mahbub Islam Madhu claimed that he had legally built this structure on the river bank. The district administration, Water Development Board and the concerned journalist leaders are also aware of the matter. Speedboats will be launched from there and it will be inaugurated soon.
In this regard, Jessore Deputy Commissioner Ashek Hasan said that there is no opportunity to build a structure by occupying the river land. No such permission has been given. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.
Although the Water Development Board Jessore Executive Engineer Palash Kumar Banerjee was called several times, he did not answer the phone. He could not be reached even when he went to the office. However, he told a journalist that only conditional permission was given for two months to clean the Kachuripana and run a speedboat. But permission was not given to build stairs or any structure. Besides, the validity of that permission has now expired. They will take necessary steps regarding the matter.
In this regard, Zillur Rahman Vitu, an active leader of the Bhairab River Reform Movement Committee, said that a group is trying to occupy the Bhairab River in a pre-planned manner. It will not be accepted in any way. A movement will be called if necessary.
