A fireside discussion titled “Evidence-Based Precision Oncology: Integrating Education, Research, and Clinical Practice” was held at the Department of Clinical Oncology, Bangladesh Medical University on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The main discussion of the event highlighted the future of precision oncology, AI-based cancer treatment, modern training systems, and the importance of research-based treatment.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam was present as the chief guest at the fireside discussion. He said that such events are very educational for students. 38 crore taka has been allocated for the purchase of AI-based state-of-the-art radiotherapy machines in the oncology department. More allocation will be made if necessary. A cancer research and treatment institute will be established at BMU, so that patients can get modern services and students can get international standard education and training. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed with the National Cancer Center Singapore in this regard soon.
The program was hosted by Professor Dr. Syed Md. Akram Hussain, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology, Bangladesh Medical University. Professor Dr. Han Chong Toh, Deputy CEO (Strategic Partnerships), National Cancer Centre Singapore and Professor, Duke-NUS Medical School, was present as a special guest. He discussed the progress of precision oncology in the international arena and the potential for high-quality cancer treatment and research in Bangladesh. He also answered various questions from the students.
MDs and FCPS residents from the Department of Oncology shared their curriculum and presented case presentations. The event created a lively and educational atmosphere with the active participation of the students. Dr. Mahmud Hasan, Nowrin M Vision Team presented on the topic of ‘AI in Radiotherapy Contouring’ at the event.
